'Vietnam: A Soldier’s Perspective' and other exhibits at the Narrowsburg Union

Five new exhibitions recently opened at the Narrowsburg Union, 7 Erie Avenue, Narrowsburg, N.Y.
Paul T. Owen’s “Vietnam, A Soldier’s Perspective 1967-1968” is a personal view of a soldier’s experience while operating in the jungle. Owen said his large-format, limited-edition archival silver gelatin photographs were “originally meant as snap-shots of friends with whom I was sharing an unusual and intense experience.”
Kim Mullen grew up on a farm respecting nature, land, and tools. When her uncles and grandfathers were discarding their dull saws, she brought them back to life by painting scenes on the blades. A self-taught painter, Mullen’s love of fishing, hunting, and nature are evident in her collection of artwork titled “Saws.”
Erica Hart’s “Musings” combines collage, assemblage, and paint to express ideas. Drawn largely to universal themes taken from literature, personal stories, and her own imagination, Hart’s work often creates a mystery that invites the viewer to participate in its interpretation.
Steve Yewchuck found a way to meld his artistic skills and love of nature though fly tying. He presents his designs in this exhibit, “The Hook Is My Canvas." His flies have been featured in Fly Tyer and Fly Fusion magazines and in the book "The Art of the Fishing Fly" by Tony Lolli and Curtis.
Eva Drizhal’s drawings are inspired primarily by nature. Her highly detailed, high contrast drawings/paintings often appear abstract but are essentially close-ups highlighting seeds and pollen which are not always visible by the naked eye. “Nature” is primarily a study in black and white.
The exhibitions are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Monday through Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Aug. 24.
