NETCONG-The Growing Stage Theatre in the Historic Palace Theatre on Route 183 in Netcong, will hold auditions for its holiday musical production, Babes in Toyland. The adaptation of the Victor Herbert operetta has a large cast with roles available for both adults and young people. Auditions are at 7 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 18 for those aged 9-16 and at 8 p.m. for adults. Call-backs will be the following evening. Those auditioning will be asked to have a prepared sixteen-measure song with sheet music for the accompanist. There will be singing only at the first audition. Those requested to attend the Oct. 19 call-back will be asked to read from the script. An invitation to attend the call-back does not necessarily mean that a person will be cast. In Babes in Toyland, Mother Goose may be forced out in the street if she can't repay her mortgage to the evil Barnaby. Two of her tenants, Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum, attempt to come to her rescue as Barnaby conspires to not only force Mother Goose out, but also to blackmail the sweet Bo Peep to marry him. The holiday season is almost here, the characters of nursery rhyme lore are in chaos, Barnaby is about to take over Toyland and Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum are Christmas' only hope. The Growing Stage is a professional member theatre of the Association of Actor's Equity. There will be four roles available to equity artists; all other roles will be filled by community artists. The Growing Stage exercises a color-blind policy in casting and minority performers are encouraged to audition. Babes in Toyland will run Nov. 26-Dec. 26 under the direction of Lori B. Lawrence.
