Walpack The interiors of two Walpack Center buildings, not seen by the public in over 20 years, will be part of tours of the hamlet when Walpack Day is held Sunday, May 16. The event will begin with a service at 11 a.m. in the Walpack M.E. Church on Main Street, within the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area. The Rev. Doctor Carter A. Smith of Mount Arlington will officiate. All former residents of Walpack Township will be remembered, and all current residents honored. The entire interior of the Church was painted by an unknown artist in 1872 in trompe 1’oeil or fool-the-eye style, making the interior look like an Italian basilica, even though it is a simple country Church. The tours will highlight the Walpack Historical Society’s Rosenkrans Museum circa 1850,as well as the general store, which also served as the Walpack Post Office, circa 1915, and the Robbins House, originally the residence of Mr. and Mrs. John Losey, circa 1850. Antique tools, engines and farm equipment will be on display. Music will be provided by Harmony in Motion, a women’s a cappella group; banjo player Bill Higbie and Cap’n Billy’s Whiz Bang Jug Band.
