‘Sweeney Todd' headlines spring festival of shows

Hackettstown — The “demon barber of Fleet Street” will make his appearance on Jefferson Street in Hackettstown this month as the musical “Sweeney Todd” headlines the Young Performers Workshop Spring Festival of Shows at Centenary Stage. The festival offers over 15 performances in 10 days, from May 21 to 30 in the Little Theatre on the main campus of Centenary College. In this 1979 Tony Award-winning musical thriller, the infamous barber embarks on a delicious plot to slice his way through London’s upper crust with the help of his crafty neighbor, Mrs. Lovett, enacting revenge upon those who have committed injustices upon Todd and his family. “Sweeney Todd” will be performed May 22 at 9 p.m., May 23 at 1 p.m., May 28 at 8 p.m., May 29 at 2 p.m. and May 20 at 7 p.m. ‘Cinderella’ The festival will also include performances of Rogers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella,” on May 21 at 8 p.m., May 23 at 4 p.m., May 29 at 5 p.m., and May 30 at 4 p.m., with school matinees on May 25 and 27. ‘Babes in Arms’ The musical ‘Babes in Arms’ will be performed on May 22 at 2 p.m., May 23 at 7 p.m., May 29 at 8 p.m. and May 30 at 1 p.m. Local students performing in the festival are: Andy Calderone of Andover; Jacqueline Gore of Lafayette; Daniel Marion, Erica Murphy and Sam Smith of Newton; Anthony Sica, Nicholas Sica and Ashley Terpak of Sparta; and Joshua Wesson of Stanhope. Tickets for the Festival of Shows performances are $10 for adults and $8 for children under 12. Tickets for student groups attending the School Matinee Series are discounted to $5 each.
