NEWTON — Photographers will be roving throughout all of Newton on Saturday, April 10 as members of the Sparta Camera Club cover recreational events, businesses, historic sights and anything else that strikes them as a “picture perfect” moment in a day in the life of the town. Main Street Newton has organized this day-long event that culminates with an outdoor revolving slide show exhibiting the photographs from the day. “Like other ‘Day In The Life’ events taking place across the country and around the world, we hope this show will capture the today’s Newton — a mix of both the historic and current vibrant life of the town,” said Jim Sheldon, executive director of Main Street Newton. Businesses and townspeople are asked to be open to participating and having a moment of their day photographed if approached. The slide show will begin at 6 p.m. and run until 8 p.m. Some Spring Street merchants are offering special events and sales for the day. The Sussex County Arts And Heritage Council (133 Spring) will be hosting an opening reception for its members’ group exhibit “Anything Goes” featuring mixed media work by Jeanne Lee Moran. Singer songwriter Carl Ferriere will be performing his original music during the reception from 4 to 6 p.m. The event is open to the public. Adiel Company (145 Spring) will present its new Spring 2010 collection of custom handcrafted stones and metal jewelry. PB&J Stores (145 Spring) will repeat their “Try It On Event” due to its having been rained out in March. Try on a pair of Not Your Daughter’s Jeans and give an opinion. Shoppers can put their names in a drawing for a free pair of jeans, valued at $98. Drawing is at 7 p.m. The Craft Creators (down the alley at 185 Spring) has a wide array of antique photo prints of Newton. Shoppers can either have them custom frame their photos, art and prints or select from a large stock of ready-made frames. Open on Second Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with art work by local artists on display. Inner Designs by Robin Lennon (relocated to 205 Spring) has graduated from The SpringBoard Shoppes into its own Spring Street storefront and will be celebrating its new home. The color of the month is Buttercup Yellow so anything with that color is automatically reduced by 20 percent. TraillWorks (relocated to 214 Spring) is celebrating five years in business with an open house, from noon to 8 p.m. Several jewelry artists will have work on display, including Bernadette Blaney (former owner of Radiant Essentials), Liesl Carlson (formerly of Layton), and Marty Traill Schaeffer (Easton, Pa.). From 1 to 4 p.m. Schaeffer, who works with sterling, fine silver, natural stones and beads will be on hand to meet guests. Throughout the day visitors can participate in a drawing contest to win a complimentary lesson or tour the new space with TraillWorks’ owner, Jennie Traill Schaeffer. Maxwell and Molly’s Closet (218 Spring) is fully stocked with spring collars, harnesses and leashes, along with new tees and other accessories for precious pets.
