SUSSEX — The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council’s current art exhibit, “Scapes,” will be on display through Oct. 3. Artists were invited to interpret the theme creatively within their medium, anything with a scene, or a view of land, sea, city or mind scapes. An opening reception for the artists will be on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 4 to 7 p.m. at 133 Spring St. Special musical guest Glenn Zervas will perform music from his new CD, “New Heaven … New Earth,” as well as pieces from previous releases - “Grace Notes” and “A Thousand Shades of White.” Refreshments will be served, this event is free and open to the public. Botanical artist Manabu Saito is a featured artist. Saito studied industrial design at Pratt Institute and began his career designing for the New York Botanical Garden and flower shows in New York City. His botanical illustrations have appeared in Audubon, National Geographic, and numerous other magazines and journals. His work is included in many books, including Wildflowers of North America, A Guide to Field Identification, and A Passion for Plants: Contemporary Botanical Masterworks. His award-winning botanical paintings are in many prestigious collections, including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Florilegium and the Shirley Sherwood Collection. He also designed the orchid stamp series for the U.S. Postal Service, which depicts four orchids native to the United States. Landscape photographer Don Freeman is the second featured artist. He uses vivid colors, sharp contrast and crystal clear depth of field consistently in every frame. Known as the Canyon Man, Freeman travels extensively with his wife, capturing vast landscapes as far as California and as close as Lake Mohawk. He is featured in many Sussex County publications and has won several awards for his work. For more information about being involved or volunteering with the Arts Council, call 973-383-0027.
