Sawyer and Twain

Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn will be spinning the rollicking tales of Mark Twain on the Centenary stage this fall, in The Young Performers Workshop (YPW) fall theatre training program on the campus of Centenary College. Hailed as an outstanding professional theatre training program for young people ages 8 - 18, the YPW fall session will take place on Saturdays from Sept. 11 through Dec. 19, and will culminate in a Marathon of Musicals, featuring "Tom Sawyer" and two other shows, during the final 10 days of the program. Interviews for the fall YPW session will be held Aug. 28 and 29 on the campus of Centenary College, and interested students may contact the Centenary Performing Arts Guild administrative offices at 908-979-0900 to schedule an appointment. YPW offers training in acting, voice and dance, with an emphasis on musical theatre and the production process. The cost of the 15-week fall session is $325. No prior experience is required, but students must complete an interview process to be admitted. The YPW Fall Session will culminate in three full-length Broadway musical productions, performed for the public and regional school children The YPW is the educational arm of the Centenary Performing Arts Guild and The Centenary Stage Company, a professional equity theatre in residence at Centenary College. Under the auspices of Producing Director Carl Wallnau, the YPW is led by Broadway, film and television veteran Michael Blevins, and is staffed by theatre professionals from New York and the region.
