Rodfather Gang pivots from Pontiacs to party time
Newton. After a spring, summer, and fall cruising with their classics, the car club wrapped up the year with its first-ever Christmas party.
The Rodfather Gang Car Club held its inaugural Christmas party at Dominick’s Pizza Restaurant and Catering on Saturday night.
“The event was fantastic and it helped to raise awareness about our car club and cruises that we do from May through November,” said leading member Vin DiPeppo. “Many people don’t know it, but we start collecting gift cards from local businesses year ‘round to give away as prizes at our cruises. These are greatly appreciated.”
Club president Jack Calvert and DiPeppo showed off some great dance moves. DJ Captain Kirk, the club’s go to for all of its cruises, spun the tunes.
Fifty people attended, and 40 gift baskets were given away. In the past year, the club has given away hundreds of gift cards to local establishments. Its Saturday afternoon cruises, held in front of Friendly’s of Newton, have become a much anticipated spring, summer, and fall tradition.
The cruises are an opportunity for folks from all over to gather and showcase their classic cars, trucks and other vehicles. You may see a 1939 yellow 32 Duce of “American Graffiti” fame, a 1959 Cadillac Series 62 Convertible weighing over two tons,19-feet long with its 4-speed hydra-matic automatic engine, a 1970 C-10 Chevy pick-up, an infamous 427 V8 1967 ‘Vette, a rare T-top Thunderbird, and countless other classics.
“They don’t make cars like they used to,” Calvert said, “With classic cars, you can tell the make and model from a distance, just by looking at the body. The cruises are a lot of fun.”
