Children’s Programs Preschool Story Time A new session of stories, songs and activities for children ages 3 to 6 and their siblings begins. Caregivers also encouraged to participate. Program runs from 1:30 to 2:10 p.m. with the exception of Dennis which will meet from 10 to 10:40 a.m. at Project Self Sufficiency in Newton. Registration in progress. Children in kindergarten through 6th grade are invited to enjoy a theme and book talk followed by an hour of LEGO creating. Be sure to indicate morning or afternoon when calling to register. Main Library: Saturdays, May 15 and June 19 from 10 to 11:30 a.m. or 1:30 to 3 p.m. Teen Programs Just Us Teens Book Club The Just Us Teens Book Club meets the third Wednesday of each month to discuss books, write reviews for the Teen Blog and more. Teens in grades 7 to 12 are welcome, no registration required. Main Library: Wednesday, May 19, 7 to 8 p.m. Teen Wii Got Game! Teens in grades 7 to 12 are invited to play Wii games, eat snacks and have fun. Bring your hand-held or board games for your down time, and bring a friend too. No registration required. Main Library: Saturday, May 15, 3 to 4:45 p.m. Adult Programs Yoga with Jane Local yoga instructor, Jane Bielen Schear, will be at the Main Library every Wednesday in May to teach yoga to adults. Wear loose clothing. The class is free, but registration is required. Main Library: Wednesdays, May 5, 12, 19 and 26, 11 a.m. to noon Super Savers Club Come join other interested savers to swap coupons, match them to weekly sales and find the best sites on the Internet for coupons. Main Library: Thursday, May 6, 7 p.m. Adult Book Club “Broken for You” by Stephanie Kallos Margaret Hughes is living alone in a mansion in Seattle with only a massive collection of valuable antiques for company. Enter Wanda Schultz, a young woman with a broken heart who has come west to search for her wayward boyfriend. Both women are guarding dark secrets and have spent many years building up protective armor against the outside world. But as the two begin their tentative dance of friendship, the armor begins to fall away and Margaret opens her house to Wanda. Along the way, a famous mosaic artist is born, a Holocaust survivor is reunited with her long-lost tea set, and a sad-eyed drifter finds his long-lost daughter. Main Library: Thursday, May 13, 7 to 8 p.m. Mom’s Night Out: Raising a Reader Presenter: Patti Poff, independent educational donsultant with Usborne Books Many children who start off loving books stop reading for fun around 3rd or 4th grade. The good news is that you can do things to prevent or reverse this trend and raise a good reader. Join the group for a hands-on workshop on reading aloud with your children. The workshop is based on the Read Aloud Handbook by Jim Trelease and will give parents practical strategies for raising an enthusiastic reader. Main Library: Thursday, May 20, 7 to 8 p.m. Senior Tuesdays: Be Wise About Your Medications A representative from the Department of Health Services will discuss the differences between brand name and generic drugs, and how changes in aging bodies affect how seniors react to medications. Participants will also learn the differences between allergic reactions, side effects and adverse drug events. Other topics to be covered include: the top 10 questions to ask about medications, drug-drug and drug-food interactions, wise medication practices, and available drug benefits. Singers and listeners of all ages are invited to participate in this special, fun-filled evening at the library. Registration required. Main Library: Thursday, May 27, 6:30 to 8 p.m. Sussex County Library Knitters & Crocheters Join other knitters at the Main Library every Wednesday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. Learn new stitches, make new friends and share patterns. No registration required. Evening Purls of Wisdom The Evening Purls of Wisdom knitting group invites experienced and new knitters to bring their projects and supplies and join them at the Dorothy Henry Library. The group usually meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of each month from 7 to 8:15 p.m. but times may vary so call the branch in advance at 973-827-8095. No registration required.
