Did you know that the Sparta Ecumenical Food Pantry collects pet food as part of its pet ministry?

The food pantry supplies local people in need while also recognizing the important emotional support and companionship pets provide, especially in these difficult times.

During June, photos of “spokespets” Holly H. and Jackson W. grace the traveling poster on display at Shepherd of the Hills Church, located at 246 Woodport Road in Sparta. Both rescue pets, Holly and Jackson are “paying it forward” to remind us to buy some extra dog and cat food for the food pantry collection bin installed at the church until June 30.

Holly, a seven (or eight) year-old cocker spaniel/shih tzu mix, was adopted from One Step Closer Animal Rescue (OSCAR). Her family has seen Holly through some medical issues with the expert care of the Highlands Veterinary Hospital in Sparta. She is very playful and loves children.

Jackson, a three-year old tuxedo cat, is the second tuxedo adopted by his family from Byram Animal Rescue Kindness Squad (BARKS). He is a sweet and friendly feline who loves to be with his “people” family. Jackson is lovingly cared for by Dr. Turner and the staff at the Andover Animal Hospital.

For more information, call the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran church office at 973-729-7010 or if would like to drop off your donations during the week. For more information, follow sothnj.org or facebook.com/SOTHNJ.

The food pantry accepts pet food donations year-’round at the Sparta First Presbyterian Church, 32 Main Street, during their donation hours on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
