Permanent farmers market at fairgrounds
AUGUSTA A new farmers market building will open at the Sussex County Fairgrounds in Augusta, on Saturday, Aug. 15. One of only a handful of New Jersey farmers markets housed in a permanent building, the new market will offer Jersey Fresh products every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through November. This building was made possible through Rep. Rodney Frelinghuysen’s efforts to get federal funding dedicated toward economic development in Sussex County. The funding, plus donations of materials and labor, have resulted in a barn style 40 foot by 70 foot market located near the main entrance to the fairgrounds. Only Sussex County farmers will be participating and all products will either be Sussex County grown or Jersey fresh. Products will include vegetables and fruits, perennials, cut flowers, dried flowers, eggs, honey, goat milk soap, jams, jellies, pickles and more, meat and cheese.
