Parenting workshops offered free of charge

    NEWTON — Project Self-Sufficiency will offer free parenting workshops for parents with children of all ages beginning in April. The classes will help to create understanding between parents and their children while emphasizing positive discipline and improved communication, as well as the different stages of physical and emotional development during childhood. The workshops will be based on either the “Nurturing Parenting Program” or the “Systematic Training for Effective Parenting” curricula. A program for teenage parents will be held on Wednesdays, beginning April 14 through June 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. A course for Spanish-speaking families with children between the ages of 5 to 12 will be offered on Thursdays, April 8 to May 13, 6 to 8 p.m. The Sussex County YMCA will host a class for parents with children up to age 6 on Tuesdays, April 27 through June 15 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. Parents of children up to 10 years can attend a class on Tuesday evenings, April 13 through May 25, 6 to 8 p.m. at the Blairstown Elementary School.
