Oratorio society plans concert at church

    Newton — The Sussex County Oratorio Society will present its Spring Concert at 7 p.m., on Saturday, May 8 at the First Presbyterian Church, located at 54 High St., in Newton. Entitled “Let Us Have Peace.” to quote General Ulysses S. Grant, this program features choral works of war and peace from the Renaissance to the present, accompanied by organ and piano. Musical director and conductor Al Kopacka will lead the 36-member choir in a variety of selections. A special song tribute, “There Will Be Rest,” will be offered and dedicated to the memory of longtime oratorio society member, Annette Veydovec, who passed away last summer. The choir is accompanied in rehearsal and concerts by Joan Tracy of Cranberry Lake. A post-performance reception provided by Oratorio Society members will be held in the church hall. Admission to the concert is $12 for adults, $6 for seniors/students. Tickets may be purchased at the door or reserved by calling Joy Sullivan, at 973-383-5315.
