NEWTON — The 11th Annual Sussex County St. Patrick's Day Parade had the luck of the Irish this year as gray skies turned blue.
Despite the cold temperatures, the crowds lined Spring Street in downtown Newton before the event stepped off at 11:30 a.m. to celebrate.
Mark Hontz returned as the event Master of Cermonies as did Newton's Town Crier Bill Joseph to announce the official start of the parade.
This year's Grand Marshals, Father Bill Collins, Pastor of St. Jude the Apostle Parish in Hamburg and brothers Sean and Mike McGuire of McGuire Cheverolet arrived in style while the Morris County Police Pipes and Drums played.
Fire Departments brought their engines and ladder trucks, decorated with shamrocks and Irish flags and local Irish Dance Schools performed along the route. Scout Troops, children from Catholic schools in the area and local politicians marched with pride.
The Sussex County event would not have been complete without the McDonald Family Singers wrapping up the day with song and dance for the audience.
