Live music, Tour of Art

NEWTON — As part of the Sept. 12 Tour Of Art event, Main Street Newton and the Second Saturday Committee will present musical performers on Spring Street, between Madison and Main Streets, from 5 to 8 p.m. Three different singer/songwriters with three distinct performing styles will be on hand throughout the evening: the bluesy, mystical voice of Rebel Red Peralta; the quirky lyrics of Judy Aron accompanied by percussionist Leo LeBarge; and the finger style work of guitarist/banjo/mandolin player John Sheehan. While the music fills the air, the second annual Main Street Newton Tour of Art kicks off when merchants all along Spring Street play host to area artists working in watercolor, traditional oil, acrylics, photography, fabrics, ceramics and more. This year’s Tour of Art includes twice as many merchant venues as last year, enabling the event to show the works of more than 30 artists. The artists will be “in residence” from 5 to 8 p.m. at the merchant venues where their work is being displayed. For updates on artists and host venues visit www.mainstreetnewton.org.
