Janice Ramsay’s artwork, titled “China in a Box,” certainly caught the judges’ eyes at the St. Catherine of Bologna Photo, Art and Poetry Exhibition. Ramsay, a Ringwood Garden Club member and a resident of Ringwood, won first prize for her mixed media entry, which also won the Judges Choice trophy. Ramsay made a strong statement in her artwork about the myriad number of boxes labeled “Made in China” that inundated her work place in New York City emphasizing to her “that country’s impact on the United States’ retail industry.” Other garden club members who entered the exhibition were Jane Nielsen, who won a first prize last year, Marilyn Gardullo, a newcomer to the show who entered the photography exhibit, and Marie DeNyse, coordinator of the silent auction.
