    — Have you ever wondered what frogs, salamanders and toads eat? Find out on the Lusscroft Farm vernal pool hike, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 14.
The hike will be led by Kevin Mitchell, Lusscroft Farm historian and naturalist.
Participants will collect water samples and use microscopes to look for the micro-organisms eaten by frogs, toads, and salamanders before they change into adults.
While hiking to the pools, learn about the history of Lusscroft Farm and how an agricultural habitat interacts with forest and wetland habitats.
Hikers will meet in the parking lot in front of the Lusscroft Manor House at 50 Neilson Road in Wantage, N.J. There is no charge but donations for restoration projects are welcome.
Children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
Lusscroft Farm is affiliated with High Point State Park, so dogs must be kept on a leash. Dress appropriately for the weather and for hiking on trails.
Two vernal pools will be explored during the hike. In the spring they are filled with activity, since many creatures — frogs, toads, and salamanders — awaken from their winter slumber.
Register for the hike by emailing kmitchel@ptd.net
This hike is sponsored by the Heritage and Agriculture Association, a non-profit Friends Group of Lusscroft Farm. Directions and more information is available at LusscroftFarm.org.
