It's maple sugar time
Wantage Lusscroft Farm will hold a Maple Sugar’in open house on Saturday, March 13 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The farm is located in High Point State Park. Visitors can see how the sap from sugar maple trees is converted into maple syrup in the Pole Barn area, where sap will be boiled in a wood fired evaporator. Demonstrations will be held throughout the day on all aspects of maple sugaring: how to tap the sugar maple trees, collect the sap, and operate the evaporator. Fresh maple syrup will be available for purchase at $7 per half-pint, $11 per pint and $20 per quart. Proceeds from the sale of this maple syrup will be used to offset the cost of the Maple Sugar’in program at Lusscroft Farm. The program is sponsored by the New Jersey Tree Farm Program, New Jersey Society of American Foresters, and the Heritage & Agriculture Association.
