Warwick, N.Y. — Iraqi-American artist Najim H. Chechen, of Turkman heritage, will give a talk at the Warwick Senior Center on Saturday, May 22, from 1 to 3 p.m. Chechen will speak about how he creates his sculptures and how he uses his work to build bridges between Americans and Iraqis. The public is invited to meet the artist, to hear about how he creates healing through the arts and to participate in a free sculpture demonstration. Participants will watch a video of the artist’s creations in terracotta, bronze, pastel and charcoal. Specifically selected indigenous, ethnic music from the artist’s culture will help to create a mood and communicate the spirit of that culture. Also on view will be the sculptures, pastels and drawings by the artist. The location of the event is the Large Meeting Room at the Senior Center, Town Hall, at 132 Kings Highway, in Warwick.
