Harmony in Motion invites women to join

Harmony, Inc. is an international, non-profit organization whose purpose is to empower all women through education, friendship and four-part a cappella singing. The New Jersey chapter of this organization, Harmony in Motion, is located in Sussex County.

Annually, a week is set aside to spread the word about this special group and to invite women who may be interested to join. For 2013, Feb. 11 to 17 has been designated as “Harmony Awareness Week."

In music, one of the definitions of harmony is unison of different sounds which pleases the ear. Harmony in Motion is a classic example of this definition, adapting their four voice parts — tenor, lead, baritone and bass — to create their special blend of harmony.

This chorus of more than 45 women performs throughout the area and endeavors to brighten people’s lives through song. This will be especially evident during the month of February, when they share their music with a couple of area nursing homes. They also have produced a number of original shows, and are in the planning stages for their next 50’s-style production to be held on Oct. 6 at Newton High School.

New members are always welcomed to their rehearsals, held each Monday night from 7 to 9:30 p.m. at Bristol Glen on Route 206 just south of Newton. Reading music is not a requirement; learning CD’s are provided, as are costumes and choreography to help create a pleasing visual effect.

For women who enjoy singing, performing and making new friends, or to schedule special entertainment for an upcoming event, contact Harmony in Motion at 973-875-9264 or visit www.harmonyinmotion.net.
