Golf Outing to support Sussex County YMCA programs and services

    The Sussex County YMCA will host its 11th annual golf outing on Wednesday, May 22 at Ballyowen Golf Club in Hardyston. The event will honor dedicated community supporter and champion of the Y, W. Daniel “Dan” McCain. Proceeds from the event support the programs and services that the Y provides for children, families, adults and seniors in our community.

    The public is invited to participate in this event, which includes a play your own ball tournament at New Jersey’s top-rated golf course. The day will begin with breakfast and registration at 7:15 a.m., followed by a shotgun start at 9 a.m. The afternoon will conclude with a cocktail reception at 2:45 p.m., and dinner and the presentation of the honoree at 4 p.m.

    A Birdie package can be purchased for $1,100 and includes a foursome for golf, breakfast, reception, and dinner. A Par package includes, golf, breakfast, dinner and reception for one for $275. Participants who wish to attend the dinner and reception only can purchase a ticket for $75.

    This year’s honoree, W. Daniel “Dan” McCain is a Sussex County native and a devoted champion of the Y. His involvement with the Y began in 1955 as a camper, and was renewed in 1973 when he joined the staff at Fairview Lake Camp, before being named as Executive Director of Fairview Lake Camp and Conference Center in 1978. During his tenure at Fairview Lake, McCain started the Environmental Education Program and was responsible for the chartering of the Sussex County YMCA in 1980. In 1986, McCain was promoted to Vice President of the Association. In 1992, Dan was selected as the President/ CEO, a position he held until his resignation in 2005.
