Ringwood — Spring is just around the corner and it is the perfect time to plant roses. Jeffrey Van Pelt is just the man to tell you how. Van Pelt is the supervisor of horticulture at the Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden. He will be the guest speaker at the Ringwood Garden Club’s meeting on Tuesday, March 16, at 7 p.m. in the Ringwood Library. Van Pelt has designed his presentation for new and experienced gardeners. He will provide a basic understanding of rose care for beginners and discuss the planting, pruning, spraying and fertilizing of roses for more advanced gardeners. The public is invited to attend the meeting. Refreshments will be served. A virtual tour of the van der Goot Rose Garden can be accessed at www.ifplantscouldtalk.rutgers.edu/virtual-tour. In other garden club business, President Pamela Tokarczuk announced that the garden club will be working together with the Robert Erskine and Peter Cooper Schools which have been awarded a grant from the New Jersey Agriculture Society to develop on site school gardens. The National Blueberry Council is in the process of donating blueberry bushes to the schools. Members of the garden club will work with the schools to assist in the project.
