Empty Bowls offers soup to help end world hunger
VERNON Vernon Township High School is hosting an Empty Bowls event Friday, Nov. 20 in the high school cafeteria from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., followed by the SCA’s “Beat the Blahs Bingo Fundraiser” at 7 p.m. Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement to end world hunger by raising funds to help those organizations who fight hunger, raise the awareness about the issues of hunger and food security and to help foster an attitude that will not allow hunger to exist, according to organizers. All of the money raised that day will specifically benefit Harvest House and the local food pantry. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for children. Diners will receive a soup and bread dinner with dessert and an empty ceramic bowl handcrafted by art students and teachers. Sodexho, the district’s food service contractor, is donating all of the soup that will be for sale.
