Eight Days of Blues' to perform nearby in New York
Vernon resident Don Sandberg is group’s drummer Vernon - The six-piece “Eight Days of Blues” band, featuring Vernon resident Don Sandberg, will be performing at a three New York locations this month. Sandberg, one of the band’s two drummers, “stretches out on original songs and the band’s classic blues tunes done their way fused with Latin, jazz, rock, and traditional R&B,” according to the band. Since age 10, Sandberg played in high school marching bands, drum and bugle corps and garage bands in California, then country, rock and blues in Memphis. Back in New Jersey, Sandberg has played in cover bands until he joined “Eight Days of Blues” two years ago. His influences include ZZ Top, Led Zeppelin and Lynyrd Skynyrd. The group will be part of the line-up at the RJR Memorial Car Show at the Orange County Chopper Headquarters in Newburgh, N.Y. on Sunday, July 19 from 10:30 a.m. to 12 noon. On Saturday, July 25, the group entertains beer tasters at the International 2009 Great Beer Expo from 2 to 4 p.m. at Neversink Valley Area Museum in Cuddlebackville, N.Y. On carload night, Monday, July 27, the band will take the main Pepsi Stage at the 189th Orange County Fair, Middletown, N.Y., from 8 to 10 p.m. The RJR Memorial Car Show features cars, motorcycles, food, trophies, raffles, and an OCC bike ride. The show is a fundraiser for the Richard Jacob Rudy Memorial Fund which benefits several charities. The Great Beer Expo, featuring more than 25 international breweries with 50 of their finest brews for sampling with great local food, is a fundraiser for the Neversink Valley Area Museum.
