Duo offers nature writing workshop

Program combines nature exploration with creative arts AUGUSTA A workshop for people who are interested in nature writing will be held Sunday, Sept. 20 on a section of the Appalachian Trail. Writer and publisher Mary Jasch will be joined by photographer and outdoorsman Lance Casper from 9 a.m. to noon to present the workshop. It will be offered in the form of a two-mile out and back walk on a section of the trail that is flat and easy on a boardwalk above a floodplain filled with September’s wildflowers. The two promise there will be lots of birds, frogs and other wildlife all viewed from above on the boardwalk. There are benches so participants can sit, observe and reflect upon the action all around and write. The emphasis is on writing but participants who want to bring cameras will get pointers on taking photos to document their writing and to use as reference. The program is geared to beginning writers but perfect for fiction writers, poets and anyone who wants to sharpen their skills of observation while enjoying nature. The cost is $35 per person. The program covers four and a half hours, including a three-hour workshop on trail and an hour and a half follow-up group review indoors. Class size is limited. The program will be held in light rain or shine. Advance registration is recommended. E-mail Mary Jasch at mary@dig-itmag.com or check the Web site at www.dig-itmag.com.
