Delaware Valley Opera to perform Menotti

| 16 Jul 2019 | 05:02

The Delaware Valley Opera continues its fourth decade with two Gian Carlo Menotti compositions, “The Telephone” and “The Medium."
These two short operas by Menotti, known to many as the composer of "Amahl and the Night Visitors," were first paired as a double bill when originally produced in the late 1940s.
"The Telephone" (or "L’Amour à trois") is a humorous look at the way the telephone became a third party in the romantic relationship between a young couple, Lucy and Ben. Written more than 70 years ago, it's still relevant in the way this ubiquitous invention plays a large role in our lives today. It features Brooke Schooley, soprano, as Lucy.
"The Medium" is a darker piece that explores the boundaries of reality for all involved in the drama. In today’s world, we are challenged to assess what is real and what is “fake news,” Madame Flora’s struggle with this issue leads to a tragic ending. It features Janice Meyerson, mezzo-soprano, as Madame Flora.
