College will hold auditions for Oklahoma'
Newton Sussex County Community College is producing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma” and will hold open auditions, beginning Wednesday, Sept. 9. The musical will be directed by SCCC Assistant Professor Stella Trikouros and will be performed at the college’s Performing Arts Center on Dec. 4, 5 and 6. Auditions are open to the general public and the SCCC community. Most of the roles are suited for performers 16 to 30 years old. There are roles for children 10 to 13 and adults 30 to 70. All actors are welcome, from the novice to the experienced. “We look forward to encouraging young and mature people who want a first chance at acting in a musical,” said Trikouros. All performers who audition should come with a photograph of themselves for I.D. purposes only, that will not be returned. Professional headshots are not required. A Polaroid or print will be fine. Everyone should come dressed appropriately to participate in basic movement. Everyone should come prepared to sing a song. Those auditioning can sing a cappella, with a CD of the music Karaoke style, sheet music or with a song from “Oklahoma,” for which the piano accompaniment will be provided. Performers will also be asked to read from the script, given improvisations to do and a few dance steps to perform in a group. Vocal and dance auditions will be held in small groups while the others are waiting outside the theatre. Auditions will be held in the Performing Arts Center and the schedule is as follows: Sept. 9, 10 and 14, from 6 to 9 p.m. Open to SCCC and community. Sept. 10, from 10:50 a.m. to noon.
