Newton — Historian John Deppen will bring history to life at the Tuesday, March 17 meeting of the Colonel Henry Ryerson Civil War Round Table, at 7:30 p.m., at Sussex County Community College, in the D-building theater. Deppen’s dramatic program will be about U.S. Major General Winfield Scott (1824 - 1886). As Hancock, he will recount the general’s participation at the Battle of Gettysburg. And during the second part of the program, Deppen will fill in the details of Hancock’s momentous life and military career, including his participation in the Mexican War. Deppen received a bachelor’s degree in Peace and Conflict Studies from Juniata College and a master’s degree in Military Studies with Honors in Civil War Studies from the American Military University in 2000. He has appeared as Hancock at numerous venues including Gettysburg National Military Park. He is the past president of the Susquehanna Civil War Round Table. St. Patrick’s Day is the perfect time to hear about Hancock, as the Irish Brigade was under his command. Meetings are free and open to the public. For more information visit www.ryersoncwrt.com.
