Church art auction supports food pantry

Vernon — St. Thomas’ Episcopal Church will host an art show and live auction beginning at 8 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 in the church’s community hall located at 307 Route 94, in Vernon. A preview is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wine and cheese and coffee and desserts will be provided by the church. The event, which will be presented by A.J. Ross of Manchester Center, Vt., will include a collection of works by artists from the United States and abroad. A variety of media, including original paintings, lithographs, serigraphs, silk screen, etchings, and sports collectibles will be offered as well as pieces by Highland Lakes potter and ceramicist Agatha Wyman. Nancy Hansen, the organizer of the event has great hopes for the auction’s success. She said, “It should be an exciting evening for all to enjoy. Part of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to Harvest House in Sussex Borough.” Harvest House serves the hungry each weekday and it was founded by Vernon Township High School students with the help of Paul Newman’s Newman’s Own Foundation, and its mission continues to this day. According to Father Robert Solon, Jr., vicar of the church, “It’s important especially in the cold of winter for the community to come together. St. Thomas’ is a sacred place that prays together, serves together, and plays together. It’s hard sometimes, believe it or not, to make sure we play enough together. I’m looking forward to a relaxing evening where we can do just that, and serve a good cause as well.” Tickets are $15 per person and $25 per couple.
