Morristown — Enjoy a spectacular original interpretation of Dracula - presented up close and scary. The Roxey Ballet presents Dracula - The Ballet at The Community Theatre at Mayo Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Oct. 30. Tickets are $22-$42. Ballet may not typically be the first of the Halloween festivities that to come to mind, but this year it’s going to be one of the best ways to get into the spirit, get scared, and get entertained. Roxey Ballet’s “Dracula,” the classic Bram Stoker version, is told through dance, drama and special effects which will frighten and enlighten even the reluctant ballet go-er by breaking all stereotypes of ‘ballet.’ Dracula was choreographed by Mark Roxey, the artistic director of the company. Roxey has himself played the role of Dracula and says, “Dracula is not for the faint hearted. It’s fun, scary, unexpected, historically beautiful and thrilling all at the same time.” The performance features music, sound, special effects, video art and multimedia projection by David Hanoman. Roxey Ballet’s original ballet choreography closely follows Bram Stoker’s horror story set in 18 century England and tells the tale in a theatrical performance with dazzling pyrotechnic, sound and lighting effects. While there is no lack of serious dancing, it is the lurking, stalking and over the top emotions that the audience will fall for: fear, rage, horror, love and passion. The result is a production that breaks through the normal boundaries of dance performance to draw the audience deeply into the world created by the dancers and the story.
