Arts council proceeds, calls for artists

Newton Despite the current financial restraints the state has put on the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council, freezing the remaining allocated grant money for 2009 and 2010, it is proceeding with business as usual, until a final decision is made. The council is now accepting entries for their next exhibit, “People,” scenes including people, documentaries and studies of or about people. All mediums will be accepted. Artists are encouraged to interpret the theme creatively without boundaries of the theme title. The registration deadline is Monday, Jan. 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Drop-off dates are Sunday, Jan. 10, 12 to 3 p.m. and Monday, Jan. 11, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the council’s gallery/office, 133 Spring St., Newton. The exhibit will be on view through Feb. 13, 2010. The opening reception is scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 16, 4 to 6 p.m., weather permitting. Light refreshments will be served. Entertainment will be provided by singer/songwriter Carl Ferriere. The featured artist is photographer Rob Yaskovic, who will be showcasing his work documenting the NJ State Fair, which he has done for the last three years.
