Artists take on a theme, exhibit the results in Newton's galleries
NEWTON The Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council will host three art exhibits in different galleries in downtown Newton during September. Every six weeks, a show with a different theme will be announced along with a call for artists. For the home gallery/office located at 133 Spring St., the theme is “Scapes,” a scene, or a view of land, sea, city or mind scapes. The registration deadline is Monday, Aug. 24. Drop off dates are Sunday, Aug. 23, from 12 noon to 2 p.m.; and Monday, Aug. 24 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., The opening reception for this exhibit is scheduled for Sept. 12 from 4 to 7 p.m., with entertainment by Glenn Zervas. The second Saturday event, “Tour of Art,” will be taking place along Spring St. in participating stores. Manabu Saito, botanical artist, will be the featured artist. The second and third exhibits are taking place in the Arts Council’s public gallery located in the SC Judicial Center, located at 43-47 High St., on the second and third level of the building. The themes for the exhibits are “Gardens, Botanicals and Still Life” on the second floor and “Journeys” on the third floor. Both exhibits will be on display from through Sept. 29.
