AIDS Memorial Quilt on display at college
Newton Six sections of the internationally celebrated AIDS Memorial Quilt, the 54-ton, handmade tapestry that stands as a memorial to more than 91,000 individuals lost to AIDS, are currently on display through Friday, Dec. 11 at Sussex County Community College. This free quilt display is being presented as part of the 21st anniversary of World AIDS Day, on Tuesday, Dec. 1. Established in 1987, The NAMES Project Foundation is the international organization that is the custodian of The AIDS Memorial Quilt. The quilt began with a single panel created in San Francisco in 1987. Today the quilt is composed of more than 47,000 individual 3 x 6 foot panels, each one commemorating the life of someone who has died of AIDS. Also, AIDS-Related Community Services (ARCS) will present “Between the Seams,” by Dan Gallagher in the Student Center Theater at 10:50 a.m. on Dec. 1. The play was inspired by the lives of those honored on the AIDS Memorial Quilt. The event is free to students and the community. For more information call 973-300-2232.
