Driver killed in Vernon crash

    A person was killed in a car crash in Vernon Township at about 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1.

    Police said they were dispatched to a single-car motor vehicle crash on Vernon Crossing Road. Preliminary investigation found that the driver of the vehicle lost control while traveling through a curve in the roadway, police reported. The vehicle then overturned, striking a tree in front of 31 Vernon Crossing Road and the driver was subsequently trapped in the vehicle, police said.

    Vernon Township Ambulance Squad, Vernon Township Fire Department and St. Clare’s Paramedics responded to the scene. St. Clare’s Paramedics pronounced the driver dead on scene.

    The cause of this accident is under investigation by the Vernon Township Police Detective Bureau and the Morris County Medical Examiner’s Office.
