The Sussex County Library System supports "I,000 Books Before Kindergarten" by providing reading lists, logs, and small rewards as children meet each 100 book milestone.

Parent information sessions about the initiative will be held at multiple locations at 6:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2019. During that time, teen volunteers will help keep the children occupied while their parents learn about the initiative.

“Children who are introduced to early literacy components have an easier time learning to read and often stay at an elevated reading level throughout their school career," stated Youth Services Coordinator Leigh Wilkinson. "Tasks as simple as singing to your young child, showing them how to hold a book, and even pointing out the language on signs."
