Charlene O'Brien and Ria Smith, co-founders of the Hardyston SEPAG and have been invited to present at Montclair State University, hosted by the New Jersey Coalition for Inclusive Education, Inc., on Tuesday, June 28, at the NJCIE's 14th annual Summer Inclusion Conference.
Charlene O’Brien, N.J. Registry Content Specialist Trainer, Health and Safety Specialist, Morris County Child & Family Resources; Ria Smith, HTPS SEPAG President will be providing a breakout session titled, “Creating & Implementing a Special Education Parent Advisory Group”.
In order to extend the opportunity for as many parents to attend the conferences as possible, they are offering parents a special offer of 50 percent off the ticket price — when a parent registers, it will ask for a coupon code. The code for the special offer is FRED.
This workshop will identify what a Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) is and why the state mandates its existence in every school district. Focus will be placed on how to jointly establish solutions to critical issues, when working with your district’s design of special education programs that target critical issues, to ensure the best educational and emotional outcomes for students. The presenters will share suggestions on how participants can engage resource teams, proactively build communication skills, and increase community awareness and involvement. Attendees will be encouraged, enlightened and empowered to establish a SEPAG in their district.
The original comprehensive New Jersey conference focused solely on inclusive education shares with attendees: the benefits, process, standards and goals to support student growth and the meaningful education of ALL children; applicable training and information based on practical experiences in how to make multi-ability classrooms work for all.
The Hardyston SEPAG was founded in 2014. The mission of the Hardyston Township Special Education Parent Advisory Group (SEPAG) is to increase community involvement while engaging with the school district with regards to the districts special education programs targeting critical issues and jointly establish solutions to ensure the best educational and emotional outcomes.
