Norma (Woodward) Faber

Norma (Woodward) Faber of Newton, N.J., formerly a long-time resident of Wantage, N.J., peacefully went to heaven on Saturday, Jan. 23, 2021, at her home while surrounded by her loved ones. She was 97.

Born on Sept. 26, 1923, in Paterson, N.J., to the late Clifford H. Woodward Sr. and Clara (Hoek) Woodward, Norma lived in Bergen County before moving to Sussex County 50 years ago. She met her husband, Cornelius “Neal” Faber, at the age of 17 while roller skating at the Paterson Recreational Center. Neal asked her for the last skate, and they instantly became more than acquaintances. When Neal went into the U.S. Navy during World War II, they would write letters back and forth while he was at boot camp. They were married on Oct. 20, 1943, in Paterson.

Norma was a longtime member of the Sussex United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Ladies Group at church and was active in the rummage sales and the church’s Bible Study. She and her husband were owners of the Hampton Roller Rink in Newton, bringing the joy of roller skating to Sussex County.

Norma was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother.

Norma was predeceased by her brothers, William, Clifford, and Lester Woodward; and a great-grandchild.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 77 years, Cornelius “Neal” Faber; daughters, Nancy Kowar and her husband, Frank, and Cindy Faber; sons, Roger “Skip” Faber and his wife, Mary Rose (“Mimi”), Neal Faber and his wife, Kerry, and Roy Faber and his wife, Carmen; 12 adoring grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren with one great grandchild on the way; two great-great grandchildren with one great-great grandchild on the way; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services were held Feb. 1 at the Pinkel Funeral Home, Sussex, N.J. Friends paid their respects to the family prior to the at the funeral home. Interment immediately followed at Frankford Plains Cemetery, Augusta, N.J.
