Henry I. McKechnie of Newton, N.J., died Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Newton Medical Center. He was 89.

Henry was born on Aug. 16, 1931, to the late, Charles and Edith (Irvine) McKechnie and raised in Scotland. He moved to the United States in 1950 and proudly served in the U.S. Army as a guard of the Berlin Wall during the Korean Conflict.

Henry was a painter for Hugo Scheering Painting; he also worked for K&E Factory, a used car dealership, and ShopRite in Newton prior to retiring in 1999.

In addition to his parents, Henry was predeceased by his wife, Anna McKechnie in 2015; and daughter Sonja M. Siggins in 1998.

He is survived by his daughter Cindy Dyda; his grandson, Jacob Dyda; his granddaughter, Lisa Riotto; his great-grandchildren, Jonathan and Allyssa; and his grand-fur babies.

Services were to be private at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are under the direction of the Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton, N.J.
