Deborah Ann Pearce, of Hamburg passed away at home on Saturday, Feb. 22, 2020. She defied serious respiratory disease for a long time, remaining active and bright. Born on Jan. 20, 1939, the daughter of Kenneth and Mary Pearce, she grew up in Riverdale, Bronx, N.Y., and graduated from the College of Mt. St. Vincent. She would earn her PhD. from Ohio State University in Educational Policy and Leadership.

Deborah had a long and varied career in education, teaching all levels from elementary school through college. She served as school principal at different levels and as assistant superintendent in small school districts as well as in large urban systems. She developed many innovative curricula programs.

Deborah is survived by her beloved and devoted wife, Carolyn Staab. A dramatic and engaging person, she also leaves Lydia, her dear equine friend of many years.

Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 27, 2020 at St. Jude The Apostle Church, Beaver Run Road, Hamburg, NJ 07419. Private cremation services will follow and have been entrusted to the Pinkel Funeral Home, 31 Bank Street (Route 23), Sussex.
