Newton Project Self-Sufficiency to offer free legal help

    For those who need legal assistance, free legal advice and limited legal representation is available at Project Self-Sufficiency.
    Income-eligible area residents can meet with an attorney to discuss a variety of topics, such as housing and landlord-tenant issues; public entitlements like Medicare, Medicaid, public assistance and Social Security; bankruptcy and mortgage modifications; divorce and family law; or other issues.
    Convenient daytime and evening appointments are available; some participants may be eligible for free legal representation. Individual consultations about a variety of legal concerns will be offered on Wednesday, June 19, 1–5 p.m.; meetings to discuss topics related to family law will be offered on Thursday, June 20, 5:30–7:30 p.m.
    The sessions are free and open to area residents who meet income eligibility requirements; consultations are by appointment only.
