New year is here

As the New Year rings in the arrival of 2019, there may be optimistic feelings. Shiny and bright anticipation like the depiction of Baby New Year, while other feelings of the New Year describe weariness, haggard pessimism like the Father time adage.
The Baby New Year and Father Time characters have been around for centuries and both have their origins in Greek and Roman mythology. The modern image of Baby New Year comes complete with a jazzy black top hat and a sash across his chest numbering the represented year. He is cute, chubby and smiling, reflecting hopefulness of the new era.
On the other hand, Father time is bearded, wears a spooky cloak, carries a scythe and an hourglass and is sometimes accompanied by a crow. Not necessary a jolly image to portray.
In actuality, Baby New Year and Father Time are one in the same, representing a typical life cycle much in tune with our own. Baby New Year reflects hope and rebirth, positivity and a chance to begin again while an overworked, spent Father Time takes his well- deserved leave. Time marches on, as we bid farewell to 2018 and a hopeful welcome to 2019.
