The Jefferson Township Recreation Department’s Karate Program will hold a free trial karate class Monday, Aug. 27.

The program is open to school age children ages Kindergarten and up as well as adults.

This ongoing program has been running for 12 years through the Recreation Department with instructors from the Jersey Judo Karate Academy of Kenvil teaching the Isshinryu style of Karate.

The skills learned help students develop coordination, balance, posture, and endurance. Students also gain self-confidence and discipline through progression in karate, while studying the authentic form of Asian Martial Arts. Jersey Judo Karate Academy is run by Sensei Rick Norris, a Kudan (9th degree black belt), and the Academy’s staff includes over 50 certified, fully trained black belts.

This free trial class will be held in the Community Lodge at Camp Jefferson located at 81 Weldon Road, Lake Hopatcong at 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. for grades K-4th grade and 7:30 to 8:30 p.m. for grades 5 through adults. No registration is necessary.
