Franklin plans Flourescent Fun Run

FRANKLIN — A funky new event for race enthusiasts is coming to Franklin this fall.
Administrator Alison McHose said the borough is planning to launch the Franklin Fluorescent Fall Festival 5K this year. But it won't just be any old race – McHose reported the run will be held in the evening hours and bright colored shirts and glow sticks will be distributed to participants.
The event, slated for Oct. 6 at 7 p.m., will include both a one-mile fun walk/run for younger participants and strollers as well as the traditional 3.1-mile loop. Both will start from the Franklin Pond park.
The 5K route will start on Buckwheat Road before turning onto Evans Street and up Main Street. Racers will then head down Mabie Street and back toward the pond via Rutherford Ave and Buckwheat Road. All told, McHose noted the run will pass a number of local landmarks including museums, churches, Borough Hall, the Franklin Library, the school, firehouse, and First Aid Squad.
Though the race won't be officially measured this year, McHose said the goal is to obtain USA Track and Field certification in subsequent years.
Proceeds from the event will benefit borough families by providing recreational and educational scholarships to organizations like the Boy Scouts of America, YMCA, Franklin School, and local churches.
Registration details will be released closer to the time of the event.
