Girl Scouts hold tree-planting event

| 30 May 2017 | 04:06

Wallkill Valley Girl Scouts recently held a Earth Day tree planting event with the help of Kristine Rogers, SCUMA Watershed Education and Outreach Specialist from the SCMUA-Wallkill River Watershed Management Group.
The scouts and their parents met at the trailhead and we took a short walk to the tree planting sites along the Sussex Branch Trail next to the Paulins Kill River.
The scouts experienced an informative presentation regarding water quality and how it becomes damaged by many different sources and how planting trees can help in that battle. The girls planted over 150 trees, found bugs, ticks and frogs. Before we left we also got to see other bugs found in our local Wallkill River.
