Ogdensburg School held it’s fifth annual Veterans Day Assembly on Nov. 9.
More than 40 veterans were honored, with all branches represented and some Veterans from as far back as World War II. The assembly began with a Parade of Veterans. Each veteran had a student chaperone, many of whom were family members. The Senior Chorus, along with first and second-grade students, sang the Star Spangled Banner and God Bless the U.S.A.
Superintendent Dave Astor welcomed the veterans and the Keynote speaker, Master Sergeant Mark Peer, UMCR. Master Sergeant Peer spoke to the students about his life in the Marines and the importance of all of the different branches of service.
Student essays were read by Ashley Sutherland, Katherine Fluhr, Antonio Ciasullo, Georgio Moskonos, and Angela Christmas. Each veteran was then recognized individually and given a beautiful poppy made by the students and a certificate. The assembly ended with a moving video and a band performance. Refreshments were served in the library.
