Architect Charles Schaffer delivered a presentation to the Hardyston Township Council, along with Public Works Director Robert Schultz on the bid results for the Colson Terrace Firehouse Renovations.
Township Manager Marianne Smith told Mayor Leslie Hamilton and the council that the presentation was for information purposes only. In addition, Smith told the council that no decision needed to be made at the time of the meeting because Hardyston didn’t have ownership of the firehouse identification at the present time. Smith told the council members and Hamilton that $724,000 is available for the renovation project.
Schultz told the council that there will be a meeting room, a training room, bays and a second-four wheelchair lift. In addition, Schultz said they would like to replace the doors that would be put on the new bays and replace the canopy. There will be a separate entrance from the outside which would lead up to the second-floor meeting room and the door to the bay area will be locked. Schultz told council that all bids were accepted except one.
Schaffer handed out the layout of the Colson Terrace Firehouse Renovation plan. Schaffer pointed out there will be a couple of bathrooms, one office and one large room for training purposes. Schaffer told council he and Schultz realized that the existing roof leaks and needs to be replaced.
Councilman Santo Verrilli asked Schaffer if the firehouse roof is flat and Schaffer said it was. Verrilli asked Schaffer if he is going to build the roof on a slant and Schaffer responded stating they will slope the roof and it will be tapered down to the back of the building where it will drain.
Councilman Carl Miller asked Schaffer what happens to the water that drains off the back of the roof and he responded that there is a swale to the right side of the back of the building.
There was no decision that needed to be made at the time of the presentation.
