A borough man faces charges after borough police were dispatched to a car crash on Sunday involving two vehicles, one of which was parked on Wildcat Road.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the operator of a black Lexus RX 350, Mark Garrera, 24, of Franklin, was traveling South on Wildcat Road and struck a legally parked vehicle on the roadway. Garrera’s vehicle then allegedly left the roadway, where police said he struck a utility pole and guide line wire which prevented him from striking two additional vehicles parked in a residences driveway nearby.
Garrera allegedly then left the scene of the accident, failing to report it.
Officers conducting an investigation allegedly found Mark Garrera in his residence actively injecting himself with heroin. Once contact was made with Garrera, he was taken into custody with no further incident, police said.
Garrera was reported to have no injuries as a result of the collision.
He was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of drug paraphernalia, use of a controlled dangerous substance, and possession of multiple hypodermic needles. He also was charged with leaving the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident, careless driving, and failure to maintain a lane.
The Sparta First Aid Squad assisted during the investigation.
The collision is still under investigation at this time and additional charges may follow.
