    Alexi Martin and Evan Vengen, both of Oak Ridge, started their first sememster at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.

    Founded in 1824, Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is America's oldest technological research university.

    Michael Betkowski of Franklin received a master's of science in education degree from Wilkes University at the conclusion of the summer 2015 semester.

    He was one of 329 students to receive a degree.

    Jerry Reese of Oak Ridge is a member of the James Madison University football team.

    He has not yet declared a major.

    Alexis Bishop of Oak Ridge was selected to be a presidential fellow for the 2015-16 academic year at Susquehanna University.

    Each year, about 20 sophomore students are selected to be presidential fellows. Deans and department heads nominate students who they feel have the academic ability, enthusiasm and interest to benefit from co-curricular discussions of literature, theater and current events.

    Bishop also is among 194 students recently honored as university scholars at Susquehanna University.

    The annual scholars program was held on Oct. 2 in Susquehanna's Stretansky Concert Hall to recognize and congratulate Susquehanna's most successful student scholars. To be named a University Scholar, students must have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.75 in full-time study for the past two semesters or equivalent credit hours of part-time study.

    Gabriel El-Ghandour of Lafayette is a member of the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute men's soccer team.

    The Engineers are ranked eighth in the nation, and he is studying Business and Management.

    He also received Liberty League All-Academic recognition.

    Student-athletes must have at least sophomore athletic and academic standing at Rensselaer with a minimum grade point average of 3.20 to be selected.

    Justin Luime of Oak Ridge has been named to the Rowan University dean's list for the spring 2015 semester.

    He has earned a GPA of 3.9 in the College of Business, majoring in accounting.

    Michael Competiello of Oak Ridge was inducted into the Lycoming College chapter of Lamda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association's official honor society.

    The junior and senior inductees must be in good standing and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 for all courses and 3.25 for communication studies. They also must rank within the highest 35 percent of their respective class in general scholarship.
