Franklin students experiment with pumpkins

The fourth-grade students in Lauren Davies’ and Mrs. Heather Labance’s class at Franklin Borough School participated in an experiment all about pumpkins.

First, students were divided into groups and given a pumpkin. Then, students estimated how much the pumpkin weighed and predicted how many seeds were inside. Next, they examined a pumpkin and drew precise pictures of it before they opened it up for further examination.

Students used sensory language to write about how their pumpkin felt and smelled and what it looked like on the inside. Students had a blast getting their hands dirty pulling out the insides and counting the seeds. Some of their predictions were very close.
