The Wallkill Valley Regional School Board appointed an interim superintendent until a replacement for retiring superintendent Edward Bolcar retires on July 1 on April 29.

Robert Walker, who retired as superintendent of Kittatinny Regional High School in 2007 after 32 years, will step in at a rate of $519.23 per day. Since retiring, he has been the president of RGW Educational Consulting, LLC.

“I appreciate your consideration in selecting me," Walker said at the meeting. "It is really an honor to be able to go back into the field of education and make a difference. And I hope I do and with your help, I know I will."

Walker is no stranger to the area, having been a resident of Hardyston for 46 years.

“It’s a nice area ... all three of my children graduated from Wallkill," Walker said. "They all have college degrees and are productive in society. So proud of them."

The board still plans to find a full-time superintendent/principal in the coming months and is in the process do sorting through the applications received.
